Cornwall Community Foundation Celebrate the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace

Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) were delighted to be invited to participate in the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla in London on 6th May 2023.

His Majesty King Charles III was the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned at Westminster Abbey since 1066. Her Majesty as The Duchess of Cornwall was Patron of the CCF and we were honoured to be invited onto the Queen Victoria Memorial Grandstand to watch the coronation parade.

Kim Conchie DL FRSA, Chairman, Jane Hartley DL and Gill Pipkin Trustees represented the CCF alongside Tamas Haydu, Chief Executive, and Rachel Mill, Administrative Officer. Despite the wet weather, everyone was in high spirits witnessing such a spectacular day in our country’s history.

The King and Queen have worked very closely with the CCF since 2013 and The Duke of Cornwall Benevolent Fund has supported countless charities and organisations across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly through the CCF.

Tamas Haydu, CCF CEO, said, “We were so thrilled to have been invited to witness the coronation, the parade was magnificent and despite the rain, the atmosphere was wonderful. The King and Queen have contributed so much to Cornwall over the years, supporting a plethora of charities and organisations through difficult times, and this occasion is such a fabulous way to bring our local communities together and celebrate as one.”

The Coronation was a day of celebrations not only in London, but through towns and villages across the country. Many communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly were having their own celebrations, some of which CCF were delighted to have been able to fund.

In Saltash, they celebrated with a two-day fair of live music, wellbeing sessions, family activities and parades funded by our Howton Solar Farm fund. This celebration brought together around 6,000 people from the area and generated a platform for local businesses, traders and musicians to reach a wider audience.

The local residents of Boyton, near Launceston, held their own street party, funded by our Boyton Solar Farm fund, which brought together the young, the old and everyone in between to celebrate this historic day as a community.

The CCF team were also honoured to have been invited to The King’s Garden Party held at Buckingham Palace on 9th May. Amy Buzza-Blackwell, Philanthropy Director; Donna Wheadon, Grants Officer and Fiona Radcliffe, Finance Manager, represented the Foundation and were amongst over 8,000 other guests enjoying the beautiful gardens.

It was wonderful to be able to represent Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, the fantastic community groups CCF have been able to fund and to have their important work recognised by the Royal Family.
