Insurer’s support helps Cornwall Community Foundation change lives across the county

NFU Mutual Agents and their staff at the local Truro agency recently nominated CCF, to receive a donation of more than £6,450 from a national £2million ‘Agency Giving Fund’ launched by NFU Mutual.

In light of the national emergency our country is continuing to face, NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, announced this £2million fund in February 2021 to help local frontline charities during 2021.

This follows £1million of support delivered by NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund in 2020, which helped charities across many sectors to keep their life-changing services going throughout the pandemic.

To ensure these donations reach all corners of the UK and are directed where they’re needed most, NFU Mutual’s Agents, with over 300 offices nationwide, have been given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund. The funds will be distributed over 16 weeks from the end of February, offering support as lockdown measures continue to impact our communities.

This donation has enabled us to fund community non-profit organisations that are changing lives across the county. One of the organisations that has received this support is the Truro Foodbank, which has fed over 1,500 people this year alone, as well as supplied 2,500 top up meals to children during the Easter holidays.

Between January and May 2019, Truro Foodbank distributed 15 tonnes of food, but during the same period in 2021, that rose to around 26 tonnes.

Simon Fann, Manager at Truro Foodbank explains: “It is the human stories behind the numbers that are the reason we exist, but the numbers alone tell you what is happening and therefore why the Cornwall Community Foundation’s help is greatly appreciated.”

Paul Hawkins, Agent at NFU Mutual Truro, said: “We decided to support the Cornwall Community Foundation as they help so many different projects across the county that have proved to be a lifeline throughout the pandemic. The Truro Foodbank has fed thousands of people, so it’s great to be able to play our part and give something back to the charity and to support them as they continue to help the community.”

Tamas Haydu, our Chief Executive, said: “We are very grateful to the team at NFU Mutual Truro for their generous donation. During the last year, the Cornwall Community Foundation has awarded grants totalling £1.6m to support Cornish communities and people, double our usual total. “Unfortunately, the situation in Cornwall remains challenging for many people and it’s only the generosity of donors like NFU Mutual that makes it possible for us to support the people who are struggling.”
