The Core Youth Project
The Core Youth Project aims to provide young people with a safe, non-judgemental space where they are able to access new opportunities, advice, activities and talk to qualified youth workers. They currently run various activities and sessions for young people, to include generic youth sessions, boxing and climbing clubs, plus there are two after school drop-ins per week where young people can access their café, advice and information.
This social action project has been solely initiated by young people, they have identified a need for it and they will be leading it with the support of a youth worker. They have done some research about what is on offer in their local area and discovered that there are no groups locally offering the same support.
It is clear that what they want to offer is a safe space for young people to access where there are other young people who are experiencing the same/similar thoughts, feelings, barriers and discrimination. They want to share stories and learn from each other. They are very keen to start up a peer mentoring scheme, where not only will they be a friendly face for new people at the group but also to extend that offer into school.
