The Worval Foundation aims to provide opportunities for young, disadvantaged people to change the trajectory of their lives. The benefit should be significant and long-term. The aim is to make the biggest possible difference with each £1 spent and therefore we favour those in an age range from 9 to 16 but we will consider children outside that age range if the change will be marked and self-sustaining.

We are not prescriptive about the intervention. We are more concerned about the outcome. It should set a young person in a new and better path. This can be through activity, mentoring or counselling or anything which will help them gain self-confidence and see the world in a new way.

How you apply

An application for a grant must be made by an organisation for the benefit of any young person resident in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly who requires support. To make this process as simple as
possible we would encourage applicants to apply for a collective number of young people within the same application form.

As part of the application, we expect to see:

  • The number of young people expected to be supported
  • Brief description of the young person’s circumstances
  • The interventions required

We are aware some organisations may not have all the information on who they are going to support at the application stage and in this instance, we will require estimates and examples.

Supporting documentation

Additional to completing an application form we also request:

  1. A copy of the organisation’s most recent Safeguarding Policy, with your Safeguarding Officer’s named and contact details within this policy
  2. A copy of a recent bank statement in the name of the organisation applying (dated within three months)

How much you can apply for

A maximum grant of £1,500 can be ring fenced per individual.

We are not prescriptive on how much an organisation can apply for, but a reasonable indicator will be based on the number of young people you hope to reach . We anticipate the average grant to be £6,000 per organisation to last over a 6 month period, but this will be dependent on demand.

We would expect the organisation receiving the funding to pay directly for the provision being sought on behalf of the individuals, rather than paying into individual accounts.

We welcome one application per organisation (through a main contact representing your organisation), although exceptional circumstances will be considered for localised branches covering
different areas of the county.

Reporting requirements

The organisation making the application will be responsible for reporting back on how the funds were distributed to each individual. We are particularly interested in hearing direct feedback from the individual and the difference the intervention has made. This can be received in the form of quotes and stories.

2024 date

We understand how important it is for the young people to have access to the relevant support networks at a time they need it the most. We hope this modified process will enable you to act swiftly.

The panel will still review individual cases that fall outside the above timescales where the need can be articulated. In these circumstances contact Lisa Dymond at lisa.dymond@cornwallfoundation.com.
